The nicknames “Little Paris” or “Paris of the East” do not present a fair image of this wonderfully unique and exciting city which embodies all which is young and fresh about Romania. Though not an obvious choice for tourists who are heading to Romania, this city has literally thousands of hidden delights for the visitor from jaw dropping feats of architecture to a lively cultural scene.
Bucharest has a population of around 2 million, making it by far the largest city in the country and it serves as both the administrative and cultural hub of the region. Numerous museums, concert venues, clubs and pubs offer a constantly changing programme which should entertain all types of tourist.
Visitors to the city will most likely be struck by the friendless of the people and their eagerness to present Bucharest, and Romania in general, as a modern place which is on the up. Buoyant after years of repression and isolation, the whole country has an energy and buzz around it which can be felt in all walks of life and especially amongst the young.
